Tomb King's base 1

I've finished construction on the Tomb King's base. I just added a bit more sand & cork and slapped on a base coat. Seeing it in monochrome helps show off the textures and ties everything together. I think painting this base is going to call for lots of dry & dusty looking pigments.

    Can I ask you what the rock is on the base? is it synthetic? (I'm a geologist), it looks fairly schistose but I've made synthetic similar looking rocks from brown stuff mixed with fimo...

    Its actually a piece of wood that I picked up off the ground because it had a great texture. It's one of those trick of scale things that wood can be used as rock on a mini.
